This grew out of The Diskowalküren. Ilona and I had written some songs which were a little too ‘light'for the Walküren, and so ‘SYSTEM DE LA MODE'was created as a vehicle for these songs. KAPPI had just started to have enormous success with SASH, having produced the brilliant hit single ‘ENCORE UNE FOIS', I felt this track was a flyer, as Kappi his parter Thomas and Sasha (SASH) were recording it, but nobody suspected that it would be massive global hit and the follow up ECUADOR even bigger! The whole SASH SOUND was very 'shiny' which I quite liked, although Ecuador was a touch to mainstream for my taste. Therfore the production on SYSTEME DE LA MODES ‘ARROWS OF DESIRE' is very ‘shiny' indeed. System signed to RICHARD BRANSONS NEWLY CREATED LABEL V2, Branson was great and I had met him a few times before back in the old Virgin days of Portobello Road, he loved ‘System' and particularly of course Ilona! However the new V2 set up was very different to the old Virgin one, and Branson was no longer in any sense 'hands on'! V2 Germany was based in Berlin, and was run by a guy who seemed to have a singular lack of competence for his job, none of the German artists signed did well out of this, and the guy was eventually fired, we Ilona and I did quite well financially out of System though, and took some wonderfully long holidays in Morocco!

The tracks featured here are of course the six tracks from the V2 CDEP ARROWS OF DESIRE, + DREAMING & MEMORIES and a STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL SONG CALLED ‘LIFE'.

SYSTEM DE LA MODE also released a great version of ‘MEMORIES' on the UK based label CHOCOLATE BOY RECORDS. Chocolate Boy had just had a massive hit with SWEET LIKE CHOCOLATE BOY. This track had been ‘pushed' by an old friend of mine from the USA VALERIE VICKERS, Formerly with WARNER/ELECTRA in New York, it was Val's promo talent that turned Sweet Like Chocolate into a massive hit. She also worked with THE SNEAKER PIMPS at ONE LITTLE INDIAN, and now runs a very successful LAS VEGAS BASED MUSIC COMPANY CALLED MUSIC FOR FILMS/MUSIC FOR GAMES.

So this has been a musical history spread over thirty years, it has I must say been quite journey for me, revisiting both good and not so good memories. I have obviously been selective about what is featured here, some things I would like to have included are not featured as I know longer have the tracks/masters or indeed know where they are. However perhaps other things will turn up and can be included at a later date. Looking back on me, in those days, hmmmm! I'm not sure! Certainly a very different person (one hopes) to the one I am today! And probably more convinced about myself than I should have been! Anyway, I hope this 'history lesson' is interesting and entertaining, it certainly has been for me!
